The Promise of Spring: Forget-Me-Not Anna

Dear Readers,
Life is insane. At least insanely busy and wearying. I have been working as a nanny/housemaid for about two months now. This has resulted in having less time to work on various projects. Somehow amongst the craziness that I am happy to call my life, I managed to whip up this simple project:

Spring has finally arrived. The freezing cold has been replaced with a balmier weather. Sixty to seventy degree days are now mixed amongst the colder forty degree weeks. The trees are slowly starting to bud out and regain their lovely greens.

The grass is rapidly being overrun with lush green patches.

Little, bitty flowers are poking their heads up amongst the grass stems. Daffodils are springing up all over the place. Life is being renewed.

But I do not suppose you came here to hear me ramble on about the intricate details of burgeoning spring. Let us discuss the dress!

This was a very, very simple make. I took the Anna Dress bodice, redrafted the neckline, added a bit of color-blocking due to fabric restrictions and slapped it onto a pre-made circle skirt. This skirt is the next to last of my ill-fated attempts at the walkaway dress. (I really should try that pattern out again now that I have gained some experience in sewing.) Since the Anna Dress bodice was already adjusted to fit me almost perfectly, it was a breeze to put this together.

I am beginning to feel confident in my lapped zipper insertions. They are quite easy once you get the hang of them!

I think I might need to add some length to the bodice. It looks a little short, which adds to my short-waistedness and ends up looking a little disproportionate from different angles.

Overall, I am quite pleased with this dress. It fits well, it has a full twirly skirt, and the neckline does not gape. What's not to like?

Details for the Avid Seamstress:

Fabric: The light purple fabric is from a long time ago, so I am not sure what type of fabric it is. It feels like quilting cotton. The dark purple is from a sheet.
Notions: Standard dress zipper from the stash.
Notes: As I mentioned above, I think I need to add some length to the bodice. Also, I am still trying to figure out the bust area. I think it looks a bit funny, so I may try a few more adjustments. Other then that, I really do not have anything else to say on this dress.

F.Y.I. I am considering moving my blog to the Wordpress platform so that I can have my own domain name. I am looking at all the details now, but I thought I would go ahead and forewarn you all. I will keep you updated, but this is most likely the last sewing project you will see on this blog. Wish me luck!

  1. Oh, I love the color blocking you did with this dress. It looks so pretty! And good luck with the new site! I hope it all goes well.
