Valentine Ladybug: Butterick 6018

Hello dear Readers.
Today I have a Valentine's dress that I made for my dear sister. I will (mostly) let the pictures speak for themselves:

It was a week prior to Valentine's Day. Photographer Sister had undergone the torturous operation of being dragged to the local Joann Fabrics where she was not only commanded but also compelled to pick out the fabric for a dress. Not being one to make instant decisions, this was a lengthy ordeal that was not to be avoided.

Finally. The fabric was selected, buttons were procured and she could at last drag her insane, fabric-nut sister out into the fresh air of freedom.

The pattern having been previously determined, there was nothing to do now but watch the lengthy process of dressmaking and undergo the occasional misgivings as to the abilities of the seamstress.

The dress was completed the day after Valentine's with the intent being to debut it that Sunday. Contrary to Photographer Sister's expectations, the dress did fit, albeit a bit loose about the waist. But, as was determinedly avowed by aforementioned seamstress, this would result in the dress being wearable for longer than one season considering the fact that the recipient was still in the process of growing.

Grand plans were made to photograph this "labor-intensive" dress amongst the glorious snow that made its presence in late February, but, the Seamstress being a procrastinating person, all the plotting produced no action. Eventually, photos were produced on a sunny day nearly a month after the completion. Better late than never!

As you can see, the dress is quite good for twirling, or spinning, depending on your execution of said activity.

Details for the Avid Seamstress:
Fabric:  Need I tell you?
Pattern: Butterick 6018
Notions: Buttons from Joann, and zipper from the stash.
Notes: Construction wise, this dress was quite easy to put together. There are a few more pieces involved considering that the skirt alone has six parts; but, if you mark the different components, there should not be any difficulty keeping everything straight. I used a center-back, lapped zipper instead of the side zipper that the pattern desired. And there is nothing more to be said! This dress was a slice of pie to sew. (Random Note: Today is pi day: Pi = 3.14… and today is March 14 or 3/14. My older sister mentioned it at breakfast this morning so I am passing it on!)
(Edit) I forgot to add that I raised the neckline by two inches.

Have a fabulous day!

~Emily

    1. Thank you Brigid! The black buttons were an idea that I had in my head as soon as my sister picked out the fabric, and Joann happened to have exactly what I was looking for.
